Slot Maintains He Feels Safe and Has Liverpool's Backing Following PSV Eindhoven Defeat
Arne Slot acknowledged that it was natural for doubts to be raised about his future after another convincing loss versus PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool endured their ninth defeat in 12 matches, representing the club's worst streak since being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were dominated by the Dutch league champions on a difficult evening at their home ground.
“I feel secure, I am OK, I have got significant support from the top,” Slot commented.
“It would be great to turn it around and get a victory naturally but when you're working as a coach and underperforming then it is normal that doubts arise.”
He added, “I accept my position. It is not the first time I’ve been in a challenging situation but it's crucial that we improved our results.”
Discussions with Club Management
Upon being questioned to elaborate on his conversations with the club's leadership, the head coach explained:
“There's regular dialogue. They are supportive for the squad and to me and those talks happen but they aren't calling me every single minute each day to say they back me.”
He mentioned, “Through standard discussions I feel the confidence. But I've not talked to them after this match yet so it remains to be seen.”
Familiar Failings and Player Response
Slot lamented known shortcomings from his Liverpool side in their Champions League loss, namely poor finishing and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more direct in his evaluation of the team's situation.
“I don’t have the answers. Honestly, I don’t. I’m saying that to everyone,” Jones stated.
“It is not good enough. I don't need to wait to think about it. I'm beyond being angry internally. I’m at the point now where I just don’t have the words.”
He went on, “It's difficult because I play for the team I support. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen this club for years.”
“In recent memory, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team experiencing a spell like this with outcomes so bad.”
Jones concluded, “But we continue to wear the crest on our chest. And as long as that badge is gone, we’re always going to fight.”
“We’re going to try to help the side return to the top, prove again what Liverpool stands for and why people call it the best team in the world.”
“However currently, we’re in the shit and it needs to change.”
