Combatants chuckle as they move on the bed of a pick-up truck, racing alongside a series of multiple dead bodies and moving in the direction of the descending African evening sky.

"See such work. Observe this ethnic cleansing," one exclaims.

The individual grins as he turns the recording device on his own face and his fellow fighters, their RSF insignia visible: "They shall all perish this way."

The combatants are celebrating a massacre that relief organizations suspect claimed the lives of more than thousands of civilians in the Sudanese city of al-Fashir during October.

A City Cut Off from the Globe
