The child of former South African Head of State Jacob Zuma has denied all charges to terrorism-related charges at the commencement of her court case in the coastal city of the city of Durban.

Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla, 43, is being prosecuted over comments she published on online platforms four years ago during violent protests in South Africa that followed the arrest of her dad.

A seven-day period of disorder in several parts of the country in the summer of 2021, including theft and arson, caused at least 300 individuals deceased and caused damage worth an approximate $2.8bn (£2.2bn).

She has been alleged of fuelling this violence and faces allegations of incitement to commit terror acts and public violence.

History of the Legal Matter

The unrest were focused in the provinces of Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal province and came after the ex-leader's arrest for ignoring a judicial ruling to appear as a witness at an probe into allegations of graft while he was in power.

She has repeatedly refuted the accusations against her, with her legal representative earlier describing the state's evidence as unsubstantiated.

She has also repeatedly stated the allegations against her were an effort to address political scores with her father after he founded his own party and ran against the African National Congress.

Support and Court Representation

This was supported by the Zuma foundation, which said the legal matter was an "misuse of authority" and a "coordinated attempt" of "political and kinship persecution" against the ex-leader and his kin.

A small number of followers from her group, her party, turned up outside the judicial building, while her parent and other organization officials participated in the court sessions inside.

The defense has argued that the evidence presented by prosecutors is insufficient and lacks concrete grounds for a guilty verdict.
