Adult Swim's Top Fresh Series of This Year Earns a Substantial Extension for an Additional Two Seasons.

In October of last year, Adult Swim welcomed back its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, later that same month, the channel launched a brand-new animated series with a strikingly different tone. Haha, You Clowns proved to be gentle and comforting, reminiscent of a animated take of a serene talk show. In an era often marked by bleakness, this show's wholesomeness struck a chord and turned it into a surprise hit.

A Major Commitment

On December 18th, the network made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for two more seasons. This provides showrunner Joe Cappa ample opportunity to further explore the story of the Campbell family. The show focuses on three respectful teenage brothers whose defining trait is their deep love for their widowed father, with Cappa portraying for all four key characters.

"My deepest thanks go to the fans of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and spread the word," stated Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for a little longer."

A President's Endorsement

In the same announcement commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "profoundly sincere and uniquely eerie." He specifically highlighted the fans who found the show and advocated for its distinctly quirky appeal.

"All of you showed up for this new show, championed for it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Different Kind of Comedy

Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a comforting antidote" to more cynical adult animated fare. There’s something deeply soothing about observing this charming family go about their everyday routines.

Previously, creator Joe Cappa stated his hope to evolve comedy past its prevailing sarcastic tone. He linked this trend to a broader media landscape.

“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we keep returning to,” explained Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we must laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”

The Path Forward

Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa has the opportunity to help usher in that change he described. At a minimum, the renewal promises audiences additional episodes to bask in the heartfelt moments of the unique Campbell clan.

The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. All episodes is ready to watch on HBO Max.
